Who We Are
Laura’s House philosophy is that we believe that domestic violence is multi-dimensional and often cyclical in nature. We offer a range of interventions including emergency shelter & safety net (we serve over 200 women and children per year), counseling (serving over 550 clients per year), violence prevention education to at-risk teens (to more than 3,500 teens per year), legal services (to over 400 clients per year). We offer a 24-hour crisis hotline where we assist more than 1,500 callers annually.
Children are the silent victims in a domestic violence situation - they have no choice and no voice. Laura’s House is proud to offer a safe and nurturing environment for children in crisis. Programs include the Building Blocks Therapeutic Pre-school program (ages 2-5) and ourKidsClubAfter-Schoolprogram (ages 6-18). Children age 2 and above receive clinical assessments, attend individual and family counseling and play therapy.
Laura’s House is proud to offer services at our Counseling andResourceCenterfor those families who are not in need of shelter. Here they can obtain individual and group therapy, social services referrals, housing assistance and legal services, as well as many different workshops and seminars tailored to fit the client’s individual needs.
Our community outreach programs include our H.E.A.R.T (Healthy Emotions and Attitudes in Relationships for Teens) workshop for at-risk youths (ages 13-18), domestic violence training for nursing students and corporate seminars on workplace violence. We also love to perform community outreach in the form of speaking engagements at local clubs, churches and service group meetings.
