Volunteer: Shelter VolunteerWISEPlace is seeking volunteers 7 days a week to assist in their SAFEPlace woman’s shelter. Volunteer opportunities range from an Advocate Helper, Mealtime Servers & Cleanup, Activities such as arts & crafts, Laundry, Showers, and services like tax preparation, legal consulting, and haircuts/styling. Detailed descriptions of these opportunities are attached.
About WISEPlace: WISEPlace is part of the solution! WISEPlace has built a temporary Emergency Shelter in our gym, (we’ve dubbed it SAFEPlace), which can accommodate up to 60 women on an emergency basis. We provide our guests with 24-hour shelter, three meals a day, shower and laundry facilities, and personalized case management. It’s a huge undertaking – and with it, we are becoming a critical service provider for unaccompanied women experiencing homelessness. We are working closely with the County of Orange and City of Santa Ana and just started accepting women into the shelter as recent as this past Sunday, March 18th.

SAFEPlace Volunteer Opportunities
We need the following volunteers 7 days per week.
Advocate Helper: Assist the staff person on duty with addressing any needs the guests might have Help orient new guests to the facility and facility rules Help new guests settle in Observe and report to staff any unusual behaviors or activities
Mealtime Servers and Cleanup (We have an outside caterer who will deliver the meals of breakfast (7-8 a.m.,) lunch (12-1 p.m.) and dinner (5:30-6:30 p.m.); Accept the meals, help serve the prepared meals and make sure the area is tidied up after the meal is served. Distribute the snacks at 9 p.m. at night.
Activities: Do an afternoon or evening workshop with the ladies (arts and crafts, other) Do a bingo afternoon or evening Provide a Friday or Saturday Night Movie Night
Services: Haircuts and styling Tax preparation Legal consulting One on one computer training and computer room attendant between (10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) Monday-Friday
Laundry: Collect laundry from guests in mesh bags, launder the items and return them to the guests (after 4 p.m. daily)
Showers: Manage the shower sign-up schedule Remind guests of their time and make sure they leave the shower ready for the next person.
