Help Provide Free Smoke Alarms To Communities (Laguna Niguel, CA)

Please join the American Red Cross and Orange County Fire Authority on Saturday, September 24 in Laguna Niguel to offer free smoke alarm installations and provide home fire safety visits to the residents. We'll be sending teams door-to-door to talk to residents, test existing alarms, and replace old alarms the day of the event.

Please ensure you are in good health the day of the installations. If you are exhibiting any COVID symptoms, you're awaiting a COVID-19 test result or are quarantining or isolating for any reason, please do not attend the event. Masks are optional for those who are fully vaccinated, but please bring one in case residents request that you wear them inside. Masks, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes will be provided by the Red Cross, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

If you've never participated before, it's easy, fun, and a great way to help your community. No experience necessary as we'll train you. We organize volunteers into teams of three, and give each person the role of either Educator, Installer, or Documenter.

The Educator discusses various home safety practices with the residents including how to prevent home fires and how to develop a 2-minute home fire escape plan.

The Installer is responsible for installing the smoke alarms in the best areas in the home. Must be 18 or older.

The Documenter fills out the necessary paperwork to document the install. We do a training session on site, but if you are interested in learning more beforehand, you can watch videos at:
